Keysight Completes NB-IoT Pilot with Telia

Telia validates NB-IoT pilot project with Keysight’s test solutions

  • Telia tested narrowband internet of things (NB-IoT) and long-term evolution (4G), category M1 (LTE-M) technologies successfully in the lab and with live networks.
  • Keysight provided its Nemo Outdoor drive test solution to measure coverage and to test the functionality of the IoT sensor product.
  • Nemo Outdoor and Nemo Analyze RF measurement solutions used for verifying coverage and analyzing the network’s key performance indicators.

Keysight Technologies announced that it had successfully completed a trial with the Nordic mobile operator company Telia. In the trial, the company successfully transmitted data using NB-IoT and LTE-M on a commercial network.

LTE-IoT is in its early commercial phase with multiple pilots and test networks currently active across the globe. Keysight’s Nemo Outdoor measurement solution and Nemo Analyze analysis tools can be used in early lab and field testing, device benchmarking, network acceptance, network benchmarking, or service level agreement verification.

“With these tests, we can truly say that the future of connected devices begins now,” said Telia business manager Mikael Sundholm. “We have proved that users can measure and transfer temperature values, for example, with this new technology via the mobile network, directly from the sensor to the customer’s display. With the success of this pilot, we can now start building new solutions for our customers in the coming months.”

“In the pilot, we enabled the measurement of Telia’s IoT service in a network delivered by Nokia,” said Kai Ojala, head of Nemo measurement solutions at Keysight Technologies. “During the initial phase, our measurement applications were used to test LTE-IoT RAN together with the core network, after which we offered solutions to test the coverage of LTE-IoT compared to the existing LTE service area. These test phases are crucial to operators for verifying network performance as well as for understanding how operators can offer LTE-IoT services commercially to new applications and service businesses.”
