- Rohde & Schwarz has developed an integrated test solution for the Taiwanese National Aeronautics and Space Administration (TASA), enabling EMC and antenna measurements to be performed in a single test chamber.
- This project addresses the need for systems suitable for testing satellites for non-terrestrial communications networks.
Rohde & Schwarz has provided TASA with a fully customized test solution. For the first time, the German company has integrated EMC and antenna measurement capabilities into a single test chamber for satellite payload testing. This system, now operational at the Taiwanese National Aeronautics and Space Administration (TASA) facilities, meets the requirements of non-terrestrial network (NTN) technologies, which require precise validation of satellite performance in complex environments. In particular, seamless integration between satellites and cellular base stations must be ensured, where conventional testing methods often prove insufficient.
The complexity of the project lay in TASA’s dual testing requirement: the implementation of a single test chamber capable of performing both EMC and antenna measurements. To meet this requirement, in addition to providing engineering services, Rohde & Schwarz provided a solution consisting of an R&S ZNA43 vector network analyzer and R&S AMS32 software for custom measurements. The system also incorporates a CATR (Compact Antenna Test Range) reflector, which was developed in partnership with a third-party Taiwanese supplier.
The implementation of a patented diamond-shaped reflector is one of the innovations of this project. This reflector minimizes interference within the test chamber and reduces interactions between the reflector, the power supply, and the device under test (DUT) positioner. This increases the accuracy and reliability of measurements performed on complex satellite payloads.
Rohde & Schwarz believes this project has enabled it to strengthen its expertise in third-party component integration. This collaboration between a third-party supplier and TASA demonstrates the German company’s adaptability to meet specific customer requirements.
