IoT and 5G drive the electronic test and measurement global market

  • Frost & Sullivan’s analysis, “IoT and Hi-speed Communication Powering the Global Electronic Test and Measurement Market, 2020”, predicts that the deployment of 5G wireless communication technologies and the implementation of IoT applications will contribute to the growth of the global electronic test and measurement market, which could reach $18.94 billion by 2025, despite a 0.7% decline due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 
As companies intensify their efforts to ensure their digital transformation, deploy IoT applications and adapt their processes to the requirements of Industry 4.0, the use of connected electronic devices is expected to increase further in the coming years. This increase should benefit electronic test and measurement equipment, for which demand is expected to grow.

“Automatic test equipment for semiconductor components (ATE) is likely to be the main source of revenue given the size of the market, the ever-increasing demand from end-users and the evolution of consumer electronics technologies. Radio Frequency (RF) test instruments are expected to be the second largest source of revenue, benefiting from continued R&D investments in 5G and 6G communications and the commercial deployment of 5G,” said Prabhu Karunakaran, Industry Analyst at Frost & Sullivan.

The automotive sector is also expected to become a major user of test and measurement instruments through the numerous development projects for electric vehicles and autonomous driving technologies.

Many technology sectors are expected to drive the demand for electronic test and measurement equipment such as energy applications, edge computing and next generation data centers.
