The eCall system is designed to automatically trigger an emergency call in the event of a road accident. When an onboard sensor detects a collision, the vehicle information system (IVS) sends location and vehicle information to a Public Safety Response Point (PSAP). Operators can then coordinate a rapid response based on the received data.

Traditional eCall systems use 2G/3G networks, while the next generation (NG eCall) relies on 4G networks, offering faster and more stable communications. The NG eCall system also offers advanced features, such as the transmission of images of the accident scene.

Since January 1, 2026, the European Union has mandated the adoption of NG eCall for automotive manufacturers. However, in areas with limited 4G coverage, the traditional eCall system remains necessary. The Hybrid eCall system, which switches between NG eCall and traditional eCall depending on network availability, addresses this need. It allows manufacturers to guarantee a reliable emergency call service, regardless of geographic location.

Hybrid eCall Test Solution Description

The solution offered by Anritsu simulates a Public Safety Response Point (PSAP) for the development of Hybrid eCall-compatible IVS systems. It consists of the following components:

  • A software option for NG eCall
  • A software option for Hybrid eCall
