Semiconductor test : French UnitySC acquires German HSEB

  • UnitySC, a French provider of inspection and metrology solutions, acquired the German HSEB Dresden for an undisclosed amount.
  • HSEB, headquartered in Dresden, is a supplier of optical inspection and metrology systems for semiconductor applications.

Together, the entity’s offerings span substrate, front-end-of-line (FEOL) manufacturing, wafer-level packaging, 3D ICs and power semiconductors.

The combination of UnitySC and HSEB platforms targets the mobile, automotive and Internet of Things (IoT) component production sectors, whose markets are expected to grow by an average of 14%, according to UnitySC, compared to 8% for the rest of the semiconductor industry.

The two entities, which own 46 semiconductor-related patent families, had sales of $20 million in 2017 and $22 million in orders at the end of February 2018. More than half of its 140 employees are dedicated to R&D.
