- NI (formerly National Instruments) announced that it has acquired Germany’s Set GmbH, which specializes in developing test systems for the aerospace, defense, automotive and power semiconductor industries.
The acquisition follows NI’s strategic minority investment in Set in 2020, which was aimed at helping aerospace and defense companies address rising development costs and test system integration issues.
The acquisition of Set is expected to expand NI’s capabilities in automotive power semiconductor reliability test systems.
In the semiconductor field, Set specializes in the testing of wide band gap materials such as silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors.
The German company manages projects from the definition of test system requirements, through hardware, mechanical architecture and software development, to manufacturing and commissioning.
Founded in 2001, the company with headquarters in Wangen now employs about 100 people at four locations in Germany and the United States.
“In the automotive industry, OEMs and semiconductor suppliers are rapidly adopting new technologies.
