- Rohde & Schwarz announces the launch of the R&S SAM200 solid-state power amplifier, which covers a frequency range from 20 GHz to 53 GHz with a saturation power of up to 4 W.
- This power amplifier targets test applications in the Ka, Q, and V millimeter-wave bands, which are used by satellite communication systems and mobile telecommunications infrastructure.
The R&S SAM200 series of solid-state power amplifiers is available in two versions: the standard SAM200, which functions as a conventional gain block, and the SAM200 Advanced. This second model integrates a power detector, USB and LAN communication interfaces, a web server for GUI-based control, and three-way RF switching. This feature allows switching between low-noise/high-gain, standard-gain, and low-gain modes to optimize Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) performance when used with vector signal generators or network analyzers.
Designed to boost the output signals of test instruments with limited output power, the SAM200 amplifier covers a wide spectral range, enabling it to replace multiple narrowband amplifiers within a single test setup. It is available in either a benchtop or a 4U rack-mount chassis.
In terms of reliability, this solid-state amplifier incorporates protection against output impedance mismatches and a power foldback mechanism. These features are designed to ensure continuous operation during adverse load conditions and prevent component damage.
With this frequency extension to 53 GHz, the SAM200 series of power amplifiers joins the German manufacturer’s portfolio of test and measurement instruments designed for the aerospace, space, and 5G (and beyond) cellular network sectors.
