- B&K Precision offers the 4088 series, a 2U rack-mount instrument that combines an RF signal generator and an arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) on two distinct channels.
- The integration of two independent channels allows a single unit to replace two separate instruments on a test bench.
The RF channel covers a frequency range of up to 3 GHz for the 4088 version and up to 1.5 GHz for the base model. It features a phase noise of −117 dBc/Hz at 1 GHz (10 kHz offset), an amplitude accuracy of ±1 dB, and reverse power protection up to 30 V DC or +25 dBm RF.
This channel supports amplitude (AM), frequency (FM), phase (PM), and pulse modulation, while also offering linear and logarithmic sweeps.
Arbitrary Signal Channel Specifications
The second channel functions as a function and arbitrary waveform generator. It offers 16-bit vertical resolution, a 250 MSa/s sampling rate, and 4 Mpts of memory depth. It delivers signals up to 80 MHz with 25 ps jitter.
Key features of the 4088 Series generator
- Format: Compact 2U benchtop unit with simultaneous dual-channel output
- RF Generator (Channel 1): 1.5 GHz to 3 GHz bandwidth (model-dependent); AM/FM/PM/Pulse modulation and linear/logarithmic sweep
- AWG Generator (Channel 2): Waveforms up to 80 MHz, 16-bit resolution, 250 MSa/s sampling rate, 4 Mpts memory
- Interfaces and control: 4.3-inch color display, USB Host and LAN ports, optional GPIB, SCPI commands, and LabVIEW drivers
- Additional features: Programmable marker outputs, 10 MHz reference input/output, NISPOM-compliant memory clearing
Control and system integration
The user interface features a 4.3-inch color display and a built-in waveform editor. Custom signals can be designed using PC software and then transferred via USB or LAN.
For integration into automated test systems, the generator supports SCPI commands and LabVIEW drivers, and offers an optional GPIB port. The units include a secure data erasure function that meets NISPOM standards.
