COVID-19: Tektronix’s metrological expertise for the production of ventilators

  • Tektronix, with the support of the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), has converted and accredited its calibration capabilities to support the tools used in the production of ventilators that are critical to the treatment of patients with severe COVID-19.

General Motors manufactures Ventec Life Systems’ VOCSN ventilators at its manufacturing facility in Kokomo, Indiana. This precision electrical components plant has reoriented its business and adapted its industrial infrastructure to produce Ventec Life Systems ventilators. Its capacity was gradually adapted to reach a production volume of 10,000 ventilators per month.

Tektronix manages the calibration and maintenance process for the torque screwdrivers used in the production of ventilators at the Kokomo plant.

To meet the high demands of respirator manufacturing, Tektronix has tripled the number of calibration events per month. The company’s responsibilities include tool documentation, inventory management, and torque tools verification and maintenance.

Ventec Life Systems’ VOCSN multifunction ventilators are among the 30,000 critical care ventilators ordered by the US federal government. The first ventilators produced in Kokomo were delivered to hospitals in mid-April.
