- Dspace has announced the addition of a Driver Monitoring System (DMS) simulation module to its Aurelion software platform.
- This update aims to support the validation of embedded algorithms against evolving European regulations (GSR) and Euro NCAP assessment protocols.
To overcome the difficulty of achieving comprehensive test coverage using real human subjects, the software combines animated 3D driver models with a physical simulation of optical sensors. The system generates near-infrared (NIR) synthetic images that can be configured based on camera placement, individual body characteristics, lighting conditions, or driving scenarios.
This approach enables the testing of gaze direction detection, attention levels, and signs of fatigue by feeding virtual image streams directly into the processing algorithms.
Integration into SIL and HIL test chains
The module integrates with the company’s existing simulation environments for Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing. It ensures synchronization between simulated image data, vehicle network signals (restbus), and ground truth data throughout the ECU validation process.
