RS Components offers the Intel Neural Compute Stick 2

  • RS Components offers the Intel Neural Compute Stick 2 for the development of IoT applications based on artificial intelligence (AI).
  • The latest version of the Intel Neural Compute Stick makes it easier to access AI functions for embedded IoT applications.

RS Components (RS), a global multi-channel distributor, announces the launch of the Intel Neural Compute Stick 2 (Intel NCS 2), a compact USB device for the development of embedded vision and intelligence artificial applications based on deep-neural-network (DNN).

This solution is intended for developers who want to integrate artificial vision and AI capabilities into their IoT (Internet of Things) applications. This stick in the format of a USB memory stick allows the prototyping of an AI application on a laptop or any other device via their USB interface.

Like the previous generation Movidius Neural Compute stick launched by Intel in 2017, the NCS 2 is based on Intel’s Movidius image processing unit (VPU for Vision Processing Unit), the latest version of which it uses: the Movidius Myriad X, which has a hardware accelerator dedicated to neural inference engines.

The Intel NCS 2 stick becomes a prototyping and development tool can be combined with the Intel Distribution’s OpenVINO toolkit, which provides AI’s tools, images processing embedded and hardware acceleration for development of applications exploiting machine vision capabilities.

The combination of Intel’s NCS 2 stick and Intel Distribution’s OpenVINO toolbox speeds up the development and deployment cycle: from prototyping DNNs trained on the NCS2 stick to simplifying porting DNNs to an embedded device or system using Intel Movidius VPU. All this does not require minimum code changes in situations where it is necessary. Intel’s NCS 2 also supports the open-source DNN Caffe and TensorFlow software libraries.
