Satellite Industry Days 2022

Third part of Satellite Industry Days

  • Satellite Industry Days is an event on the topic of satellite and space technologies. It is organized by Rohde & Schwarz in several parts.
  • The first part was entitled “Mastering the Challenges of NewSpace Satellite Constellations”, the second part “Taking the Next Steps in Non-Terrestrial Networks and 5G / IoT Satellites”.
  • The third part, which will take place on December 13, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. (CET), will focus on “Understanding the Impact of Next Generation Satellite Technologies.”
  • A discussion, offered in virtual format, will bring together the industry experts who participated in the event at the end of the day.

Technological advances have enabled the operation of satellites offering high and very high transmission rates in GEO, MEO and LEO orbits. The satellites also have significantly increased capacity at reduced costs. In particular, the higher frequency bands – Q/V band and above – offer more bandwidth. Payload software upgrades allow new functions to be added and upgraded while the satellite is already in orbit. This provides more flexibility to meet customer needs.

Technological innovations create new opportunities while at the same time bringing new technical challenges. Experts from Rohde & Schwarz, Work Microwave, Calian, Eutelsat and Airbus Defence and Space will take turns presenting a conference to shed light on these topics.

15:10 – 15:30
Jörg Rockstroh, Director of Business Development at Work Microwave, will provide an overview of digital ground segment infrastructure for satellite and space communications. This will help system integrators and operators understand how to best transition from an analog teleport infrastructure to a digital infrastructure.

15:30 – 15:50
Günter Pfeifer, product manager for OTA systems and test chambers at Rohde & Schwarz, will present phased array antennas as a key technology to gain agility in terms of orbits and frequency bands.

15:50 – 16:10
Peter Waskowic, Calian’s director for the satellite communications product segment, will discuss the evolution of in-orbit testing of satellites tailored to flexible payloads for high-speed digital transmission.

16:20 – 16:40
Andreas Voigt is Senior Engineer for Service Operations in Eutelsat’s video business. He will present the Quantum satellite and the benefits it provides to customers.

16:40 – 17:00
Glyn Thomas is responsible for global payload strategy at Airbus Defence and Space. His presentation will focus on the role of GEO, LEO and MEO systems operated by 5G and 6G networks. He will present Airbus’ vision of the fully interconnected space wide web.

17:00 – 17:30
The day will close with a round table discussion with all the experts that will be moderated by Thomas Wrede, founder and CEO of Technology Vision Consulting UG. A live Q&A session will be offered.

Registration for this event is free. More information about Satellite Industry Days 2022 is available at
