- Anritsu and Candox Systems have evaluated a production-line testing solution for 60 GHz radar devices and sensors, based on near-field measurements that do not require an anechoic chamber.
- The trials verified the correlation between results obtained using this method and those derived from the far-field measurements mandated by certification procedures under Japanese radio regulations (Radio Act).
The evaluation was conducted at the laboratory of TÜV Rheinland Japan, an independent certification body. It combined an Anritsu millimeter-wave measurement solution—based on a signal analyzer—with a 60 GHz near-field probe developed by Candox Systems.
The method involves comparing measurement results obtained via the near-field probe with the far-field measurements used for regulatory certification. The resulting characterized discrepancies are used to establish a correlation between the two methods. According to Anritsu, this approach achieves correlation with certification measurements without the need for a large anechoic chamber.
Near-Field Measurements for Production Testing
This solution aims to reduce the footprint of test equipment and the investment required to set up production-line testing capabilities, while maintaining consistency with reference results. It is particularly suitable for testing mass-produced 60 GHz radar devices and sensors.
These devices are used in applications such as vital sign detection, motion sensing, security systems, and industrial equipment. Rising production volumes are driving the need for compact testing solutions adapted for use on manufacturing lines.
Anritsu and Candox Systems plan to continue working with industry stakeholders to validate and facilitate the application of this method to production testing of millimeter-wave sensing devices.
