Arrow Electronics Digital Test Drive

Arrow Launches Cloud Platform for Remote Hardware Evaluation

  • Component distributor Arrow Electronics is introducing Digital Test Drive, an online service that allows electronic system designers to evaluate hardware solutions via a web interface.
  • This platform aims to eliminate the logistical constraints associated with physically shipping development kits and simplify preliminary testing phases for design teams.

The service relies on the use of pre-configured virtual machines connected via a secure link. Users access physical development boards located in Arrow’s labs via the cloud. This architecture enables real-time control of evaluation kits, interaction with dedicated software environments, and retrieval of test data without requiring physical hardware on-site.

This centralized approach allows multiple members of a distributed team to access the same technical resources simultaneously or sequentially. The service also includes live support tools, training sessions, and technical demonstrations to assist users in using the tested platforms.

Reduced Development Cycles

By digitizing access to evaluation cards, Digital Test Drive eliminates several recurring operational obstacles in the electronics industry. The process removes shipping delays, customs procedures, and issues related to limited availability of demo kit stock. Furthermore, software suite installation and debugging tool configuration are already performed on virtual instances, reducing deployment time.

According to Arrow Electronics, this system allows companies to compare different hardware platforms more quickly and accelerate technical decision-making processes. The Digital Test Drive service is designed as a complement to the existing physical hardware loan program, which allows components to be borrowed for up to 28 days. This dual approach offers developers the choice between immediate remote evaluation or in-depth on-site testing.
