Emerson Expands Its PXI Test Instrument Portfolio with a Multimeter and Oscilloscopes

  • Emerson, which acquired NI in 2023, has announced new instruments for its NI PXI automated test platform: the NI PXIe-4086 digital multimeter and new versions of the PXIe-5160 and PXIe-5162 oscilloscopes.
  • These PXI-format instruments are designed for validation and production applications in the semiconductor, transportation, aerospace, and defense sectors, as well as for research.

The NI PXIe-4086 digital multimeter offers 6½-digit resolution and a specified accuracy of 35 ppm. It is intended for measurement applications that require high throughput.

The new versions of the NI PXIe-5160 (pictured) and PXIe-5162 oscilloscopes provide a bandwidth of up to 1.5 GHz, available in two- or four-channel configurations. Options for 1 GB of onboard memory are also available for capturing and analyzing high-bandwidth signals.

These instruments integrate into NI PXI modular test systems, which allow for the synchronization of multiple instruments within a single setup. The goal is to address the needs of multi-channel and multi-measurement applications, while enabling test systems to scale according to evolving validation and production requirements.

Software for Test Configuration and Automation

Emerson is supporting this new hardware with software enhancements. The addition of support for recent PXI instruments and switches within NI InstrumentStudio expands the possibilities for configuration—without the need for programming—as well as for commissioning and debugging systems that incorporate multiple instruments.

The provider is also highlighting NI Nigel AI, its artificial intelligence tool designed for test applications. This is intended to assist engineers in the development and debugging of automated test sequences. The approach facilitates the transition from interactive measurements—often used during troubleshooting—to automated procedures integrated into validation or production processes.
