Forecast growth of the global OTA test market to 2025

  • Allied Market Research, has published a report entitled “Global Over-the-Air (OTA) Testing Market by Technology, Industry Vertical, and Application: Global Opportunity Analysis and Industry Forecast, 2018-2025”.
  • According to this study, the world market for OTA (Over The Air) tests is estimated at 1.51 billion dollars in 2017.
  • This market is expected to reach approximately $3 billion by 2025, with an average annual growth rate of 9.4% between 2018 and 2025.

The OTA test is a mandatory test for certification by the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA). In addition, individual operators, suppliers and standards bodies are also required to determine whether wireless communication devices meet current standards. The development of IoT applications, cellular telecommunications and the proliferation of intelligent electronic devices should therefore boost the growth of the OTA testing market.

North America dominates the global OTA testing market with sales of $630 million in 2017 and is expected to reach $1.22 billion by 2025, with an average annual growth rate of 8.7% between 2018 and 2024. The Asia-Pacific region could experience a higher average annual growth rate, estimated at 11.7%, over the forecast period.

OTA (Over The Air) tests are generally performed during the R&D phase of all devices that emit electromagnetic waves. For mobile phones, for example, the tests aim to ensure that the antenna radiation is homogeneous, i.e. that the same signal is transmitted or received in all directions. It is essential that the antenna of a wireless communication device radiates in all directions, so that the user of the mobile device does not need to position himself in a particular direction to ensure good reception of the signal, and that a call is not interrupted when the signal is masked, for example, by a large building.
