Keysight's VXG Vector signal generators.

Keysight’s VXG vector signal generator rises to 44 GHz

  • Keysight Technologies’ VXG series microwave signal generators are designed for 5G and satellite communication applications using millimetre wave (mmWave) frequencies.
  • These vector signal generators, with two channels, cover frequencies up to 44 GHz and have a 2 GHz RF modulation band.
  • These instruments are available in two formats (with or without a graphical interface) to meet the needs of R&D and production departments.

The deployment of mobile communication networks according to the 5G NR standard implements signals with wider channel bandwidths and active antenna networks that operate in the millimeter frequency range to support multiple input and output antenna (MIMO) and beamforming technologies.

Conformity tests of components and other equipment operating at millimeter frequencies must be performed in an OTA (over the air) test environment in accordance with the requirements of the 3GPP mobile telecommunications standards organisation.

According to Keysight, VXG generators with frequency coverage from 1MHz to 44 GHz and RF modulation bandwidth up to 2 GHz, as well as output power up to + 24dBm (at 39 GHz) are optimized for 5G NR test systems. Their two channels deliver vector signals in phase coherence.

These instruments validate new designs in the frequency range 1 (FR1) and 2 (FR2) defined by 3GPP for 5G standard telecommunications.

Keysight’s PathWave Signal Generation software solution can be used to create a range of signals that comply with 3GPP 5G NR standards for testing base stations, transmitters and receivers on mobile terminals.
