Tektronix’s 3 Series MDO multi-domain oscilloscopes.

Tektronix announces the 3 Series MDO family of multi-domain and upgradeable oscilloscopes

  • Tektronix announces a new generation of mixed domain oscilloscopes (MDO) that combine analog inputs for time domain signal analysis with an RF input for frequency domain analysis.
  • 3 Series MDO takes the concept of its predecessors MDO3000 and MDO4000 and adds an undeniable touch of modernity, user-friendliness and scalability.
  • Like their predecessors, 3 Series MDO oscilloscopes can combine in the same housing 2 to 4 analog channels, one RF channel and 16 digital inputs.

Tektronix’s 3 Series MDO oscilloscopes feature an 11.6-inch capacitive HD touch screen (1920×1080). They are distinguished by their upgradeable bandwidth and some other features as well as their compactness (252 mm x 370 mm x 149 mm for 5.3kg – 9.9 in. x 14.6 in. x 5.9 in. For 11.7 lbs).

Depending on the models, they cover scalable bandwidths of 100 MHz, 200 MHz, 350 MHz, 500 MHz and 1 GHz.

Their 2 or 4 analog inputs, operating an 8-bit resolution analog-to-digital conversion system, can be supplemented by 16 digital inputs as well as an independent RF input allowing spectral analysis of signals up to 1 GHz or 3 GHz frequencies depending on the option chosen. This allows wireless communication circuits to be debugged or undesirable sources of radio frequency emissions to be located without the need for another instrument.

Signals are sampled up to a rate of 2.5 GS/s or 5 GS/s on all analog and digital channels. The samples are saved on a 10Mpts deep memory.

These instruments also offer a digital voltmeter and an arbitrary 50 MHz function generator. They also have several communication interfaces: 1 Ethernet port, 3 USB Host ports, and 1 USB Device port.

Options for debugging and triggering serial protocols, as well as power measurement are available as options.

3 Series MDO uses the TekVPI probe interface, which provides access to the full range of Tektronix differential voltage, active voltage and current probes, as well as optically isolated power rail probes and differential probes.

3 Series MDO oscilloscopes are available from €3,570. However, to protect customers’ investment, bandwidths and options are upgradeable after the instrument is acquired.
