Teledyne LeCroy Announces CP1000 Series Current Probe

  • Designed for use with the manufacturer’s oscilloscopes, the CP1000 Series AC/DC clamp meter from Teledyne LeCroy enables the measurement of high DC currents while maintaining a broad bandwidth from DC up to 1.5 MHz.

 
Evaluating modern power converters, particularly those using wide-bandgap semiconductors (SiC and GaN), requires the simultaneous measurement of high currents and fast switching transients. In this context, the CP1000 Series probe is designed for the analysis of traction inverters, motor drives, electric vehicle charging stations, and energy storage systems.

Electrical Specifications and Bandwidth

This current probe accepts a continuous RMS current rating of 1000 A and supports current peaks up to 1400 A. Unlike conventional current transformers, which are often limited to low frequencies at these current levels, it maintains a frequency response from direct current (DC) up to 1.5 MHz.

This feature allows for the capture of fast switching, high-frequency harmonics, and current rise times to evaluate switching losses and the overall efficiency of electronic circuits.

Ergonomics and System Integration

Mechanically, the probe features a 33 mm core opening, allowing the passage of large-section conductors and busbars without opening the circuit. The 6-meter connecting cable provides sufficient distance between the operator and live areas during testing.

The probe interfaces with Teledyne LeCroy oscilloscopes via the proprietary ProBus connector. The connection ensures automatic probe recognition and scale configuration. Degaussing and auto-zeroing procedures are performed directly from the oscilloscope interface.
