CommSolid uses Rohde & Schwarz’s NB-IoT and Bluetooth combined test solution

  • CommSolid, an IoT specialist based in Dresden (Germany), uses Rohde & Schwarz CMW radio communication testers for RF and functional testing of its IoT solutions based on Bluetooth LE and NB-IoT communication standards.

CommSolid, which has been part of the Goodix group since February 2018, provides very low-power solutions for cellular IoT applications based on the NarrowBand-IoT (NB-IoT) cellular communication standard, allowing the direct connection of each sensor to the Internet.

CommSolid’s IoT solution was deployed as part of a real application for managing and supervising a fleet of rental bicycles in an urban environment. The data corresponding to the position of the bicycles and their use are transmitted by NB-IoT radio communication technology. Bicycle status parameters are collected at the rental station via Bluetooth LE (Low Energy). The two wireless transmission methods (NB-IoT and Bluetooth LE) have been designed to ensure low power consumption, extended battery life and secure communications.

R&S CMW radiocommunication testers are distinguished by their ability to test cellular and non-cellular transmissions in parallel. The CMW290 tester from Rohde & Schwarz supports all current mobile communication standards as well as all Bluetooth RF tests including Bluetooth LE 5.0.

R&S CMW testers allow RF signalling tests for Bluetooth LE to be performed using OTA (over-the-air) measurements under real conditions. This allows for a detailed analysis of the transitions between NB-IoT and Bluetooth. CommSolid can also coordinate and optimize its integrated wireless functions to identify and eliminate interference.

Managing a bicycle rental fleet is only one of the possible applications of CommSolid’s IoT solution, which integrates the latest 3GPP functionalities in the NB-IoT domain, including full compliance with version 14. In addition, the latest version 5.0 of the BLE standard is supported. The integrated solution with very low energy consumption is based on a secure architecture using both standards.
