- The European Commissioners are launching a subsidy program for the development of battery manufacturing technologies for electric vehicles in Europe.
The IF24 Battery innovation fund will allocate €1 billion to electric vehicle battery cell manufacturing projects aimed at fostering the development of innovative technologies, processes or products. The application window is open until April 2025.
Projects can involve both component suppliers and manufacturers of manufacturing machinery and equipment.
One criterion will be particularly decisive in awarding these grants. It takes into account the objective of reducing Chinese sourcing of cathodes, anodes and other active materials used in batteries. This approach is designed to prevent the EU becoming increasingly and irreversibly dependent on imports of strategic battery components.
On December 17 and 18, the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and the Environment (CINEA) and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) are organizing an information day to present the main features and award criteria of the next Innovation Fund 2024 call (IF24 call) and the Innovation Fund 2024 call for batteries (IF24 Battery), and to present lessons learned from previous calls to demonstrate best practice.
