- Anritsu and LG Electronics announced the successful validation of LG’s Integrated Vehicle System (IVS) for Hybrid eCall operation, in accordance with the European standard EN 18052:2025.
- This validation contributes to regulatory readiness and ensures the continuity of emergency call services as cellular network infrastructures evolve.
The validation was performed using Anritsu’s eCall evaluation solution, certified to the EN 18052:2025 standard for Hybrid eCall systems. This solution confirms the proper functioning of the end-to-end eCall service chain, covering both circuit-switched (2G/3G) and packet-switched (4G/LTE IMS) networks, as specified for Hybrid eCall deployments. The results demonstrate that LG’s IVS system meets the functional and interoperability requirements defined for Hybrid eCall, thus ensuring the continuity of emergency services during network transitions.
Background and Challenges of Hybrid eCall Technology
Hybrid eCall technology is designed to ensure backward compatibility with circuit-switched networks while enabling the implementation of Next Generation eCall (NG eCall) technology via the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) in packet-switched networks. As European regulations evolve to mandate NG eCall compatibility for new vehicle type approvals, verifying Hybrid eCall behavior under mixed network conditions has become a necessary step to demonstrate regulatory compliance.
Shinji Hoshino, General Manager of the IoT Test Solutions Division at Anritsu, stated that Hybrid eCall imposes stringent end-to-end interoperability requirements between different network technologies. According to him, this validation with LG confirms the successful implementation of Hybrid eCall behavior and supports compliance with the latest European eCall standards.
Kim Hong-doc, Vice President and Head of Connectivity Development at LG Vehicle Solution Company, stated that this validation demonstrates the ability of LG’s embedded system to meet Hybrid eCall requirements as Europe transitions to NG eCall. He added that the collaboration with Anritsu allows for end-to-end eCall performance verification in accordance with current European expectations.
Public Demonstration
The validated Hybrid eCall system was showcased at the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) event in Gothenburg on April 23, 2026, providing stakeholders with a practical view of standards-based Hybrid eCall validation in a realistic network test environment.
