Rohde & Schwarz’s test solution for eCall modules

Rohde & Schwarz offers a test solution for eCall modules

Rohde & Schwarz’s new R&S SMBV-K361 software option, used with the R&S SMBV100A vector signal generator and R&S CMWrun test sequencer, enables automatic compliance testing of GNSS receivers integrated in the eCall module.

ERA-GLONASS has been mandatory for Russia and the Eurasian Customs Union for one year. Its European equivalent eCall will be available from April 1th, 2018. From that date, new cars and light trucks in the European Union will have to be equipped with the eCall automatic emergency call system.

The eCall or ERA-GLONASS modules on board vehicles must be certified. Their compliance with the requirements of current standards must be verified.

The eCall module’s GNSS receiver processes GPS, Galileo and SBAS (satellite-based augmentation systems) signals to determine the vehicle’s position. In the event of an emergency, the module automatically calls the nearest emergency call centre and transmits the vehicle position and other information via the cellular communication network.

To ensure that the accuracy of the transmitted position and other parameters are within the required limits, the GNSS receiver shall be tested according to criteria defined in EU2017/79, Annex VI and UNECE 2016/07.

The solution combining the R&S SMBV100A vector signal generator, the R&S SMBV-K361 software option, and the R&S CMWrun software sequencer automatically performs GNSS performance testing of eCall modules according to regulatory specifications. All specified test cases can be configured, planned and executed automatically. This makes it possible to check the positioning capabilities of eCall modules.
