IEEE 802.3ch MultiGBASE-T1 automotive Ethernet testing with the R&S RTO and R&S RTP oscilloscopes from Rohde & Schwarz

Rohde & Schwarz announces a solution for testing compliance with the IEEE 802.3ch MultiGBASE-T1 automotive Ethernet standard

  • With the new K88 option, Rohde & Schwarz R&S RTO and R&S RTP series oscilloscopes can perform compliance tests according to the requirements of the next evolution of the automotive Ethernet standard.
  • The new IEEE 802.3ch standard addresses the needs of high-speed data transfer networks in a vehicle.

The network infrastructure in vehicles is demanding ever higher data rates. The MultiGBASE-T1 Ethernet standard meets this expectation by offering data rates up to 2.5G, 5G and 10G. The MultiGBASE-T1 standard implements a 4-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM4) technique with symbol rates up to 1.4 GHz, 2.8 GHz and 5.6 GHz. The PMA conformance test specification for this standard, established by the Open Alliance Technical Committee TC15, is still in draft form.

With the new K88 option, the R&S RTO and R&S RTP oscilloscopes can perform MultiGBASE-T1 transmitter conformance tests according to the IEEE802.3ch physical layer specification (PHY, Layer 1).

Rohde & Schwarz offers a range of automotive Ethernet compliance test solutions including the R&S ZND vector network analyzer that can be used to perform MDI return loss measurements.

The R&S ScopeSuite test software automates the control of measuring instruments as well as the tasks of processing results and issuing reports. A support tool guides the user step by step through the test procedure with illustrated instructions. Test automation speeds up and makes testing more reliable by minimizing the risk of human error. The test results are documented in a user-configurable report. R&S ScopeSuite is a stand-alone software application that can be run either on the oscilloscope or on a separate PC.
