Tektronix MSO Series 2 Oscilloscope

Tektronix introduces MSO Series 2 oscilloscopes with unprecedented compactness

  • Tektronix announces the launch of the MSO Series 2 mixed-signal oscilloscopes, which feature an extremely compact form factor that resembles an industrial tablet.
  • The MSO Series 2 oscilloscopes are the latest addition to the MSO family, which already has four members ranging from Series 3 to 6.
  • While they share the same intuitive user interface as their predecessors, they are distinguished by their compact 4 cm thick casing and their black dress that covers their 10.1″ inch touch screen.

Integrated in a compact case (210 mm H x 344 mm W x 40.4 mm D), the MSO Series 2 oscilloscope knows how to be discreet on a laboratory work table. Its 1.8 kilos also make it a very handy instrument. It can even be transformed into a stand-alone portable oscilloscope thanks to the optional battery pack that attaches to the back of its case. This pack can hold two batteries that promise a 6 to 8 hour autonomy. Equipped with the battery pack, it loses some compactness but remains quite reasonable in weight: 3.2 kg with one battery and 3.6 kg with two batteries. A protective cover is offered as an option to protect the instrument from falls of 1 meter.

A battery pack for two hot swappable batteries can be attached to the back of the MSO Series 2 oscilloscope.

Depending on the model, the MSO Series 2 oscilloscope has 2 or 4 analog inputs and covers frequency ranges of
70MHz, 100MHz, 200MHz, 350MHz or 500MHz. The frequency range of the instrument can be upgraded to a higher level later on when the instrument is purchased.

On the signal digitization side, the MSO Series 2 oscilloscopes offer a maximum sampling rate of 1.25 GS/s (on all channels) and 2.5 GS/s (when two out of four channels are used), and a memory depth of 10Mpts for all channels.

Like many of the latest generation oscilloscopes, they also incorporate several instruments: a 50 MHz arbitrary function generator (available as an option), a 4-bit pattern generator, a 5-digit voltmeter and frequency meter. They can also be optionally equipped with 16 digital inputs transforming them into MSO (Mixed Signal Oscillocopes). Triggering and decoding tools for serial bus protocols are also available as options (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, SENT).

Natively integrated software tools enable remote collaboration and problem solving. The MSO Series 2 interfaces with the TekDrive platform, a cloud-based workspace for test and measurement data where engineers can upload, store, organize and share any type of file from a connected device. Users can also perform analysis on a waveform and save it to the cloud for immediate viewing and feedback from colleagues.

The MSO Series 2 oscilloscopes, which are equipped with multiple interfaces (2 USB Host, 1 USB Device, 1 Ethernet) are priced between €2040 and €9760.
