Keysight and MediaTek Demonstrate 5G 8K Video Streaming Application

  • Keysight Technologies presented with MediaTek an application for streaming 8K video to an intelligent TV using 5G wireless communication technology.
  • The demonstration, held at CES 2020, January 7-10 in Las Vegas, combines Keysight’s 5G emulation solutions with the MediaTek modem at speeds of up to one gigabit per second.

The demonstration uses Keysight’s 5G emulation solutions with MediaTek’s System-on-Chip (SOC) for 5G communication from the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 Series delivering data rates of up to 1 Gbps. The fast data transmission speed ensures a continuous 8K video stream to an 8K smart TV without the need for a cable connection.

MediaTek, a supplier of semiconductor circuits for wireless communications, is using Keysight’s 5G test solutions to validate its Dimensity chipsets for 5G communications.

MediaTek will use Keysight’s 5G platform to establish a 5G new radio (NR) connection using the non-standalone (NSA) mode, which relies on an LTE core and radio access network. A dual connection (EN-DC) is used to generate an aggregated data stream created from the LTE and 5G signals.

Keysight and Media Tek have been working together for more than three years. This has allowed MediaTek to accelerate the validation process of its chipsets in frequency bands below 6 GHz and in millimeter frequency bands.
